Double success for brp at Planning Committee

It was a success all round for brp at Harborough District Council’s Planning Committee last night, securing approvals for not one, but two, contemporary new-build dwellings.

After a lengthy and, at points, heated debate regarding the architectural design of the proposals, Members elected to approve the scheme at Saxon Close, Market Harborough. Providing a unique 3-bedroom dwelling designed to meet the specific requirements, and healthcare needs, of our Client, the property benefits from strong links to the wealth of amenities available within the town and offers a quirky contemporary architectural addition to the surrounding residential context.

Later in the evening, it was cause for celebration once again – with our second scheme of the night securing a unanimous decision to approve proposals for a new 4-bedroom dwelling on the outskirts of Bitteswell. Representing a ‘first’ for brp architects, this proposal gained overwhelming support under the strict planning criteria associated with Paragraph 55 of the NPPF, which governs that any property to be built in such a remote / rural location has to accord with the following;

  • be truly outstanding or innovative, helping to raise standards of design more generally in rural areas;

  • reflect the highest standards in architecture;

  • significantly enhance its immediate setting; and

  • be sensitive to the defining characteristics of the local area

Such was the level of the support offered by Members it was proposed that there should be a condition associated to the approval that enabled them to look around the building when it was completed! From our perspective, this is a huge compliment and we look forward to developing the next stages of the project.
