State of the art ‘super surgery’ now open

October saw the opening of the £4.8m ‘Embankment Primary Care Centre’, the new home for the Castle Healthcare Practice, an amalgamation of four West Bridgford GP Practices, that will operate alongside the Musters Medical Practice. It has taken seven years following brp architects’ successful competition entry for the design of the new premises for the building to be developed and constructed. Much of this time was consumed by protracted negotiations with the NHS and in obtaining planning permission on the contentious exception site which, due to the elevated flood risk, came with a presumption against the granting of planning permission.

The new 2,500sqm building, situated on a greenfield site next to the River Trent, is elevated a full storey above ground level to accommodate the ever-present flood risk, providing vital space for the much-needed undercroft car park.

A complex sustainable (SuDS) drainage system was also incorporated to eliminate off-site stormwater discharge into the Trent, bordering the site to the north providing fantastic views from the elevated waiting room and meeting room and staff accommodation above.
